CHALLENGING CHANGE

One week down.

I weighed myself this morning , day 8, and it was interesting to note that I have remained at 45.4kgs as per day 3. This is a clear indication that I am once again, maintaining a certain weight without increasing my food take sufficiently to put on more . I need to up my game if I am to steadily increase per week. Of course part of me is relieved that it didn’t spiral as I feared but strangely enough, I am disappointed that I haven’t picked up a bit more because I am struggling as it is with food quantities and feeling uncomfortable and yet I still need to eat more in order to gain. I know there are other ways of increasing weight without eating huge amounts . One can increase oil on salads and in cooking, add extra spoonfuls of peanut butter, more cheese, bigger amounts of ice-cream and so on.

I am managing better with breakfasts. 2 days ago I needed to run some errands in the morning and so I set my alarm early enough for me to have breakfast in a relaxed state. Sod’s Law, I somehow managed to sleep through my alarm and woke in a total panic when I saw how late it was. I knew that its imperative for me to eat so I made myself a quick smoothie and drank it in the car en-route. I put a banana, some yoghurt and milk, cinnamon, 3 tablespoons of oats , a teaspoon of almond butter and 2 tablespoons of seeds in the Nutribullet and voila, instant breakfast that was actually delicious. Now I know that smoothies are no big deal for most people but for me, the restricted eater, they are not a part of my normal daily diet, so please humour me a little!

My favourite breakfast hands-down though is some crunchy ( healthy ) granola and muesli together with chopped fruit, yoghurt and milk. I love it when the milk is absorbed by the granola and there is a creamy texture from the yoghurt. Yummy. As we end the summer and enter into Autumn, it will be easier and comforting to reintroduce porridge again. Also a filling and nutritious way to start the day. I am feeling less uncomfortable today ( day 9 )although I am aware that I could still increase quantities much more.

One thing at a time…..
