How ironic that my obsession with bread as per my earlier blog post, that I eat so little of, lead me to create a sourdough starter that requires ME to feed IT! I’m the one who needs feeding and instead I have got this little blighter sitting on the kitchen countertop , an ever growing and developing organism that requires nurturing and constant feeding. Enough is enough! Its cost me a fortune in flour, time, energy and patience and today the latter wore out and I snuffed out the offending creature by drowning it before pouring it down the drain with the look of absolute triumph and a huge relief that I am no longer being held ransom by this flour-consuming monster.
Okay, it did produce a decent loaf but honestly , life is too short to spend so much effort on a loaf that I can buy so readily at numerous places throughout London. Yes, these loaves are expensive but I now know why and quite frankly, if bakers want to labour and toil for hours and hours in order to produce the perfect sourdough loaf, they should be admirably remunerated and hats off to them.
This hat has been thrown into the ring.
